FORENSIC EVIDENCE IN OUR COURTS

How might the factor of reliability regarding forensic evidence play a role in our courts?

Science Lab

Legal practitioners are becoming increasingly skeptical of forensic science evidence, it's delivery in trials, and the role it play's in convictions or acquittals when they are admitted. Furthermore, a critical examination has been undertaken by practitioners from a variety of forensic science fields, criticizing the inadequacies and reliability of several previously recognized procedures.

The current system has flaws in terms of operational issues including "efficiency of the justice system and how it is conducted, expert evidence admissibility, reliability tests," and structural issues such as the "influence of expert evidence on jurors, the confrontational nature of the system in common law jurisdictions, the bias of legal representatives, and flawed assumptions in forensic sciences."

A growing body of studies, as well as a number of high-profile analyses, are challenging and critically evaluating significant issues concerning forensic science approaches and their effective application in the criminal justice system. A stronger connection between various fields, as well as the necessity to identify major aspects that both forensic science and the law must address is crucial.
